Geraldine ReQua

Geraldine “Gerry” ReQua, 94, Winfield, died March 5, 2024, at Cumbernauld Village.

Born May 27, 1929, in rural Barber County, she was the daughter of Wilbur and Jessedeene (Sisk) Hartley.

She was raised and received her education in Barber County and graduated from Medicine Lodge High School. She graduated from Iliff School of Theology and later attended Southwestern College, obtaining a bachelors degree in elementary education, graduating Summa Cum Laude.

Gerry was united in marriage to John Jay ReQua on June 30, 1946, at Forest City Chapel in rural Medicine Lodge. The couple made their first home in rural Barber County. They moved to Winfield in 1977, to Wichita in 1982, and eventually returned to Winfield.

Gerry was the director of education at various churches, including East Heights, Woodlawn, and College Hill United Methodist Churches in Wichita, Scott City United Methodist Church, and Ark City United Methodist Church. She was a Diaconal Minister and ordained Deacon in the United Methodist Church. She retired in 1994.

John preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 2018.

Gerry was a member of College Hill United Methodist Church until transferring her membership to Grace United Methodist Church, Winfield. She was also a member of PEO, Beta Sigma Phi and United Women of Faith.

She enjoyed traveling and collecting Native American artifacts. She especially loved being with people and spending time with her family.

Survivors includes her daughters, Kathleen Brazle and husband, Frank, Chanute, Jessie Bradley and husband, Jim, Dexter, and Renee Smith and husband, Scott, Hutchinson; brother-in-law, Riley ReQua; grandchildren, Andy Brazle, Ashlee Mansfield and husband, Greg, Tyler Siefkes and wife, Brianna, Cameron Dreher-Siefkes and wife, Hannah, Stuart Smith and wife, Esther, and Spencer Smith; her grandsonin- law, Justin Fischbach; her great-grandchildren, Sam and Laura Fischbach, Sophie and Lexie Nelson, Jordyn and Kennedy Siefkes, Lennon and Norah Dreher-Siefkes, and Cassidy Smith; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Gerry was also preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Amber Fischbach; and her brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Nella Hartley.

Visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service, Winfield, on Mon., March 18, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will greet visitors during this time.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Medicine Lodge Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in Gerry’s name for Grace United Methodist Church and for the Cumbernauld Village Employee Fund. Contributions may be sent to Miles Funeral Home, 4001 E. 9th Ave., Winfield, Ks. 67156.
